Woman in a Male Field

Why I Got Started

Hi - I am P. Joshi. I have worked in finance in NYC over the past 8 years. I am also South Asian, a woman, and an immigrant.

Increasingly, I’ve found that online career advice, especially for women, often falls into 2 extremes:

Camp 1: Quit your 9 - 5 (6, 7, 8) before you burn out (Translation: you can’t handle it)

Camp 2: Generic, surface-level tips that ignore who you are

Neither needs to be true. I started Woman in a Male Field because I was frustrated by unspecific, untailored career advice on the internet.

A Little More Background

When I landed my first big girl finance job in New York at 22, I had no playbook for how my so-called “nontraditional” background (cue: woman, of color, from a non-target school, you get it) would shape my career path. And even less on how to navigate it.

Since then, I have learned countless lessons and keep learning every day.
